The Supreme Court of India is set to launch a Monthly Lecture Series on Law, Justice and Legal Education to create a regular platform for dialogue on contemporary legal and societal issues . Announced by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India on Teacher’s Day (5 September 2026), this continuing intellectual initiative is anchored around the core philosophy of “One important idea. Every month.” Key Features of the Monthly Lecture Series The Monthly Lecture Series is designed to bring together diverse stakeholders from across the legal ecosystem to address critical questions shaping law and society. Collaborative Platform: Brings together the Bench, Bar, academia, eminent experts, and young legal minds. CJI Guidance: The Hon’ble Chief Justice of India will guide the themes, speakers, and overall format for each edition. Launch Schedule: The inaugural edition will take place in September 2026, followed by one distinguished edition every month thereafter. Creating a Permanent Knowledge Resource To ensure enduring public and academic value, each edition will be preserved and distributed across multiple formats. Professional Recordings & Transcripts: Every session will be professionally recorded and accompanied by an edited transcript. Ideas Paper: A concise Ideas Paper will be published alongside each edition to summarize key insights. National Reach: Discussions will be livestreamed and supported by concise summaries in Indian languages to reach a broader academic and legal audience. The "Supreme Court Nyaya Shiksha Samman" In addition to the lecture series, the Supreme Court has proposed an annual institutional honour for legal educators. "The Supreme Court also proposes an annual 'Supreme Court Nyaya Shiksha Samman', a non-monetary honour recognising distinguished contribution to legal education." Conferment: Awarded once every year around Teacher’s Day to one or two outstanding legal educationists. Inaugural Presentation: The first presentation of the honour will take place following the inaugural lecture. Through these programs, the Supreme Court aims to foster deeper legal thought, encourage wide participation, and build an enduring tradition of contemporary legal discourse.
